Ear reduction

In addition to protruding ears, which protrude from the side of the head, disproportionately large ears are a trigger for shame. In this case, an ear reduction can create a lasting and positive change in appearance.

"Nicht zuletzt ist zu sagen, dass auch der für uns wichtige "mentale" Umgang mit meiner Tochter immer sehr offen, nett und "auf Augenhöhe" war. Wir hatten immer das Gefühl gut versorgt und bestens aufgehoben zu sein!"

The ear reduction refers to an intervention of plastic and cosmetic surgery, with the aim to visually reduce the size of the ear. It should be noted that the ear cannot be arbitrarily reduced by the treatment. This method also has its limits.

There are different reasons patients opt for ear reduction. Many suffer psychologically from the excessive size of their ears. Even though they can be partially covered by long hair, knowledge about it is nevertheless a decisive factor, which can cause long-term discomfort because the ears ultimately influence the entire appearance of the face. Therefore, every reduction of the ear is customized. The course of surgery within plastic and cosmetic surgery depends on which part of the ear is oversized. This can be both the auricle (outer ear) itself and/or the earlobes.

The reduction of the ears can be done separately, but also in the context of an ear correction. The decision depends entirely on the realizable wishes and ideas of the patient.

In the run-up to the treatment, a detailed consultation takes place, during which the ideas and wishes of the patient are discussed and assessed. The actual treatment takes one to two hours to complete and may be performed under general anesthetic or local anesthesia, possibly with a sedative.

After treatment, patients are given a special bandage designed to protect their ears from possible infections and to help heal the wounds. This should be worn for one to two weeks after surgery.

The treatment is suitable for patients who are dissatisfied with the size and shape of their ears and wish for individual and long-term treatment or adaptation.

Basically, patients should be in a physically healthy condition when undergoing treatment so there can be a quick and speedy recovery.

Reducing the size of the ears is considered an established treatment, but great care should be taken by an experienced specialist to reduce potential risks of treatment.

In the first week after surgery, it is perfectly normal for bruising and swelling around the sutured areas of the skin to occur. This usually subsides by itself. Sensitivity to pressure and temperature of the ears is also perfectly normal immediately after treatment.

The costs vary depending on the complexity and size of the areas to be treated. Thus, it is not possible to give a general price for an ear reduction. Since the prices vary depending on the findings, a cost plan can only be drawn up in a detailed consultation following appropriate preliminary examination.
